Volunteers needed for new native Olympia oyster study to assess future restoration and Living Shorelines projects in Marin County. This is our last oyster event of the season, so we need a lot of helping hands!

Have you heard of a Hangtown Hash? This oyster filled omelet started in California in the 1800s with the Gold Rush era. When gold miners struck it big they came to San Francisco to feast on this delicacy and almost wiped native oysters from San Francisco Bay because of it. Our Olympia oyster is the only oyster species native to the West Coast. It is a critical species to the Bay ecosystem and is now under threat by introduced predators, climate change, and other stressors.

Come lend a hand, learn about marine life in San Francisco, and be a part of wildlife conservation in your backyard bay!
