The transition from high school to college can be challenging for many students, particularly for first-generation, low income, students of color, and/or immigrant and refugee students. As a Summer Bridge Mentor, you will be matched with one or two Denver Metro Area high school graduates to support their successful transition into college at the Community College of Aurora, Community College of Denver, Front Range Community College, or Emily Griffith Technical College.
Students and mentors meet in a group setting one evening a week in June and July (except for the week of July 4th) on Tuesdays from 6-8 pm.
Topics of discussion include self-advocacy, time management, financial aid and budgeting, healthy decision making, cultural shifts, and accessing campus resources.
Following the summer group meetings, mentors will provide support and encouragement to their mentees during their first semester, but are welcome to remain in touch beyond this time period.
Students who participate in Summer Bridge will be supported by the Goodwill Post-Secondary Success team until they obtain a degree and will be assisted with matriculation into a 4 year college if that is part of the students' career dreams.
