Mission Statement
San Antonio Sports creates sports opportunities for our community and its youth. Since its inception in 1984, San antonio Sports has dedicated its resources to three main objectives: 1) SPORTING EVENTS - Target sports as a growth industry in San Antonio and to solicit sporting events that have a positive effect on the economy while creating national and international exposure; 2) SPORTS AND FITNESS PROGRAMS - Act as a catalyst in the development of sports and fitness programs for all ages, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged neighborhood youth; 3) ATHLETIC FACILITIES - Support the development and maintenance of safe, high quality athletic facilities.
Description
SPORTING EVENTS: Each year, San Antonio Sports hosts major athletic events, which have generated more than $300 million in direct visitor spending for our community. Many of these events, including the NCAA Final Four championships, deliver millions of dollars of national and international media coverage for the city. YOUTH SPORTS AND FITNESS PROGRAMS: San Antonio Sports serves 160,000 children each year through our three youth sports and fitness programs: 1) Dreams for Youth - Provides youth with mentoring, tutoring, and training in four Olympic sports:diving and volleyball throughout the year. 2) Community Olympic Development Program (CODP) - Official program of the United States Olympic Committee to identify, develop, and advance athletes with elite potential, with the goal to improve the quality of training and competition and increase the number of athletes who are candidates for National teams and college scholarships. Our CODP athletes train in badminton, diving, and fencing. 3) Valero Go!Kids Challengeā¢ - In partnership with school districts across San Antonio and surrounding counties, Go!Kids is a physical fitness and nutrition program designed to combat childhood obesity by promoting healthy habits through routine activity and nutrition education for children in Grades K-5. VOLUNTEERS: Our volunteers are the heart of San Antonio Sports and are undoubtedly our most valuable resource. Whether supporting the NCAA Final Four or volunteering for a Sports Foundation youth program, it takes individuals of all types giving of their time and efforts to make these events and programs successful. Become a volunteer for San Antonio Sports and make a positive impact through sports and fitness. Thank you!
