Literacy is an essential aspect of our everyday lives that is embedded in our activities, interactions and relationships. Literacy is not only the ability to read and write but the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute.

Volunteer tutors will work with adults in Pitt County who are learning English language skills necessary for living and working in our community. Tutors work in group settings using published curriculum materials to meet the student's needs.

Qualifications:

Strong desire to improve the English language skills, sensitivity to cultural differences, patient, understanding, flexible, outgoing and positive attitudes. Ability to meet challenges with enthusiasm. Fluent in English. Tutors must also commit to 1 to 2 hours of tutoring a week for at least six months.

Responsibilities:

Complete a short training, prepare ESL Lesson plans and materials as requested by the students, complete feedback forms, and tutor students on a regular basis.
