"In recognition of the 30th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day Tackles4Cancer in partnership with the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine will host the "Cancer Socks" 5K run/walk on June 3rd 2017 at 8 am cst.
The Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive care facility that oversees some of the best cancer care facilities in the world including Texas Children's Cancer Center, which sees 50% of all pediatric cancer patients in Texas and 90% in Houston. Additional facilities include, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center , and Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, a nationally recognized leader in medical research and treatment. DLDCC also provides cancer care to Harris Health at the Ben Taub Hospital and Smith Clinic, the largest public hospital in Houston which provides 70% of the cancer care to Houstons underserved community.
The Tackles4Cancer National Cancer Survivors Day "Cancer Socks" event will also include live music, a 1K Kids Run, and a charity relay. The race gear will feature a unique pair of Tackles4Cancer signature knee high socks to bring awareness to transportation being a major road block to tackling cancer.
This will also be the official go live event for the partnership with the Tackles4Cancer & Dan L Duncan Cancer Care Center, as well as the affiiliate hospitals which currently provides cancer treatment to 70% of patients in Harris county, many of which are underserved. Studies show that 20% of cancer patients cancel or delay treatment due to lack of transportation resources.
It takes a team effort to tackle transportation, and the proceeds from this event will be donated to Tackles4Cancer 'The Drive' program."
