The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Vigil Volunteers desire to provide support at the most sacred time of life - the last days of a person's life. Vigil Volunteers receive specialized training to familiarize themselves with the signs and symptoms of approaching death and how to provide support to patients and their families or caregivers. Our volunteer vigil program is designed to provide 1:1 time to relieve the family from emotional angst when they cannot be present, relieve them by offering respite time or companion them as they experience the passing of a loved one. Vigils are determined by the needs of the caregiver and patient with the goal that 'no one should die alone'. Volunteers may be requested any time of the day or night for a period of 1-4 hours; however, our vigil volunteers are asked what they are able to commit to and are scheduled accordingly.
We provide service for patients residing in Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia and Delaware Counties. Please contact volunteer coordinator Kathy O'Connor at 215-371-1393 for further information.
