Volunteers have the opportunity to provide support for survivors on our 24 hour hotline and accompany survivors to the hospital day and night. As a hospital volunteer, you will be accompanying survivors to the hospital, often through a forensic exam, and providing supportive and confidential crisis intervention, safety planning, and information referrals. Volunteering with STAR will provide you with extensive training and educational opportunities, a supportive network of staff members and fellow volunteers, and an opportunity to help survivors heal and move past their trauma.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and be able to commit to at least two shifts a month for one year. Volunteer training includes 20 hours of online training and 20 hours of in person training. If you are interested in volunteering with the Central Louisiana branch of STAR, please apply online at http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/59Yz1e10BKa95Q and make sure to select "Alexandria."

Description
STAR, formerly the Rape Crisis Center, was established in 1975 to serve sexual assault survivors and their loved ones in the Greater Baton Rouge community. For the first 36 years, STAR operated as a division of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office. In 2011 the Rape Crisis Center became STAR, which incorporated into a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the Louisiana Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in order to expand services to surrounding parishes, increase education and outreach efforts, and ensure confidentiality with our clients as a separate non-governmental entity. STAR now offers services to the entire Capital Region, including Ascension, East Feliciana, East Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana Parishes. In 2015, STAR opened an office in New Orleans to expand the geographic reach of our services. In 2016, STAR expanded to Central Louisiana where we now serve Avoyelles, Grant, Rapides, and Vernon parishes.
