Mission Statement
The Family & Intercultural Resource Center (FIRC) is a non-profit organization that aims to enhance the quality of life in Summit County by providing information, assistance and education to families, immigrants and refugees. The FIRC fosters collaboration among community agencies and businesses and advocates for family and cultural competence. Colorado Bright Beginnings is a specific program of the FIRC whose particular vision is to see that every child in Colorado will be healthy, valued, and ready to learn. The mission for this program is to provide a bright beginning for all Colorado children by helping families support their children's physical, emotional, and intellectual development during the critical first three years of life.
Description
The FIRC has three program areas to fulfill its mission. The Families United program, General Assistance, and Summit Thrift and Treasure (Summit County's only non-profit thrift store) provide information, referral, home visitation and education for local families, immigrants and refugees and advocate for community integration.
The Colorado Bright Beginnings program at the FIRC offers the following programs to any interested families at no cost. The Warm Welcome Program offers visits to parents of newborns, offering broad based support and providing information on health, safety, childcare, community resources, health insurance, early brain development and highlighting the importance of reading to children from birth. The Moving On Program provides visits to parents of children ages 12-24 months offering parents specific information, assessments, and tools to promote language development during the second year of life.
