ORGANIZATION: Kitchens for Good

ROLE: The StartUp Business Intern will help develop and enact the business plan for this venture. This internship is unpaid, however, Kitchens for Good will coordinate with academic programs to ensure internship credit is granted.

PURPOSE: The StartUp Business Intern helps actualize our vision to "use food to change lives" by strengthening our existing "Therapeutic Meals Program" business plan (e.g.: conducting market analysis) and helping plan and execute the product line’s marketing campaign.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Research the best practices of successful small-scale, localized culinary healing and therapeutic meal programs; compile a report featuring an analysis of their business plan and client base

  • Conduct a market analysis. Collect information about the product line’s target groups, their distinguishing characteristics, and estimates of their respective sizes in San Diego County.

  • Draft a financial projections report, including historical financial data and prospective financial data.

  • Collaborate with Founder, Chef Instructor, Operations Manager in drafting a program budget for: 1) "beta-testing stage" 2) "at-scale production stage". Create a proposal for a pricing structure for "at-scale production stage"

  • Enrich and establish the Therapeutic Meals "brand". Collaborate with the Director of Marketing in to draft engaging messaging, advertising, and marketing materials. Provide general feedback on the product line’s marketability throughout the term.

  • Develop marketing campaign proposal; brainstorm outreach strategies for each target group. Work with Programs Director to cultivate new relationships with local health and wellness agencies and strengthen existing partnerships

  • Attend biweekly meetings with Therapeutic Nutrition Intern and KFG Staff to discuss updates about the Therapeutic Meal Program

TIMES & DATES: 16 hrs a week for 3 months

Staff Lead, Volunteer Coordinator, and StartUp Business Intern will meet to determine weekly schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational skills, entrepreneurial spirit, and belief in Kitchen for Good’s mission

  • Student in Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration program or other relevant experience

  • Possesses basic knowledge of business economics, business finance, and marketing fundamentals

SUPPORT: The StartUp Intern will participate in an initial orientation guided by the Volunteer Coordinator. Our Staff Leads will facilitate ongoing trainings in various areas. Access to program information and other resources will be shared with the volunteer. The Volunteer Coordinator will also facilitate regular "check-in" sessions with the StartUp Business Intern every two weeks.
