FSFL

FitSTEPS for Life has an immediate need for a Clinical Volunteer on Saturday mornings! One of our busiest exercise centers holds open hours from 9:00am - 12:00pm each Saturday, and we have a team of dedicated volunteers that take turns running it each week. We would LOVE for you to join this team!

Clinical Volunteers with FitSTEPS for Life are:
- Friendly & Approachable
- Reliable & Responsible
- Able to assist others in the exercise center
- 18 years of age or older

Each new volunteer attends a short orientation session and receives training on safety and basic exercise assistance. This position is considered a "long-term" volunteer assignment (more than a few weeks), however, backup volunteers for the Saturday morning shift are available, so occasional absences are okay! Having a current CPR/AED certification is a plus!

FitSTEPS for Life is the exercise and nutrition component of Cancer Foundation For Life, a non-profit organization based in Tyler, Texas. We primarily serve cancer patients, survivors and their caregivers by providing a free exercise program.

Mission Statement

FitSTEPS for Life is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with cancer by providing physical conditioning and support programs in the home, hospital, and affiliated community centers.

Description

FitSTEPS for Life is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals living with cancer by providing physical conditioning and support programs in dedicated community fitness centers, hospitals, and home-based programming.

FitSTEPS for Life tailors its conditioning programs to each patient's needs, including aerobic exercises, weight bearing, strengthening and stretching techniques. Trained staff evaluate each person entering the program and though participants may be extremely debilitated by disease, chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery they work with staff to design an exercise action plan based on their unique needs. Our highly qualified, degreed staff encourage self-efficacy by teaching participants how to safely use equipment independently, assisting patients to learn physiologic monitoring techniques, documenting results, and cheering their progress. Exercise mastery encourages and empowers cancer survivors to become physically active at diagnosis, during, and after treatment and to remain active throughout life.

FitSTEPS for Life is always looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skill levels. Volunteers support FSFL by assisting with our day-to-day operations both in our centers and at the office - if you are ready to serve, we are ready to find a position that suits your talents!
