The Phoenix Public Library is seeking several volunteers to teach English as a Second Language classes to beginner and intermediate level adult students. Volunteers are needed at several locations in the Phoenix area. We are looking for instructors who can independently develop lesson plans and prepare the lesson handouts.
Requirements:
*Must complete a background check
*Strong desire to help others improve their English language skills
*Capable of engaging people of diverse backgrounds and age levels and is comfortable speaking in front of a group
*Strong communication and listening skills
*Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
*High School Diploma or equivalent
*Must be at least 18 years old
*Able to commit to at least 2 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months
*Previous experience in tutoring and/or teaching adults is preferred
*Previous experience working with English language learners is preferred
*Able to prepare ESL lesson plans and materials
*Must attend a volunteer orientation
