Hinds' Feet Farm is a 501c3 non-profit benefiting adults with Traumatic Brain Injury. This event is our primary fundraiser to support both our Day program and residential program. The Checkered Ball is a black tie fundraiser complete with dinner, dancing and a silent auction.

The goal is to raise money to fund our programs, bring awareness of the continuing need for support, and to inform our supporters of new outreach programs and goals that have been accomplished in the last year.

This event requires a volunteer training day which will be held on March 18th from 11am-2pm and is mandatory. The day of the event, volunteers will meet downtown at the Ritz no later than 4:00pm. There is a dress code; for ladies this means either a long or short dress, or pantsuit (the short dress must be appropriate- no extremely short hemlines), and for men this means a suit. Ladies it is advised you wear flats, as it is a long evening and your feet will thank you.

Dinner the night of will be provided, we will go over any last minute changes, the flow of the evening and then everyone will go to their assigned posts. Guests arrive around 6:30, but many come early which is why dinner is served early and we as volunteers are ready at 5:15/5:30. From 6:30 to about 8 or 8:30 is cocktail hour, and guests will mingle, bid on items, and drink. Once the doors to the ballroom open dinner will be served, the program will ensue, and the evening becomes more relaxed for volunteers.

We usually order pizza or snacks close to 9:30 to ensure you guys have enough to eat as it is a long night. The busy part of the night is when the auction closes at about 10:30, when volunteers need to be ready to help pack and get items for guests at check out. Once check out is complete, we have to help pack up all items that belong to the Farm, and any items that were not bought or picked up as all that has to leave.

It is a very long night, but is a ton of fun and gives you the opportunity to help give to a worthy cause and see some amazing things being done in your own community.

Mission Statement

Hinds' Feet Farm is dedicated to serving persons living with brain injury. Our mission is to maximize the post injury potential of persons living with brain injury with integrated, unique and holistic programs; allowing our members to pursue meaningful activities while developing a sense of belonging at home and in the surrounding communities. We will accomplish this mission with unique, person-centered, post-rehabilitation, community-based programs

Description

The Hinds' Feet Farm Day Program is a paradigm shift from the traditional medical, treatment, model for people living with brain injury, to a model that embraces a holistic health and wellness orientation, empowering members toward occupation and meaning in life post injury. Created by, and for, persons living with brain injury; members actively participate throughout the entire infrastructure of the program. Hinds' Feet Farm is person-centered, member empowered, self- determined, free choice, conce ptualized and driven program.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding for our members is available in the fall and spring weather permitting. Riding sessions are overseen by our riding instructor and Day Program Coordinator, Alison Spasoff, MA, NARHA Certified Riding Instructor, Program Staff and Trained Horse/Equine Volunteers.

Therapeutic Horse Riding would not be possible at Hinds' Feet Farm without the selfless generosity of our volunteers. Volunteers assist program staff to keep our riding activities safe and fun. If you are interested in volunteering in our Riding Program, please contact Alison and see our website for volunteer paperwork. Our horses are also cared for by additional equine barn volunteers who donate their time generously to care for our seven therapy horses throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering in the barn, please contact Sydney Foil, and see our website for volunteer paperwork.
