Help Youth Grow Through Fun!

ORGANIZATION: East End House

East End House’s Middle School Program serves more than 70 youth at the Putnam Avenue Upper School in a comprehensive afterschool program. Our philosophy is to inspire leadership through youth-designed initiatives; empower youth to create their own learning experiences through project-based learning; and utilize the unique talents and interests of the staff to create an environment that allows for free expression of ideas and concerns.

We are looking for volunteers that are interested in engaging youth in after school Enrichment Activities and Clubs. We provide students diverse opportunities to learn about different fields of interest, develop their skills and talents, and express themselves. Some opportunities have included: coding classes, photo-journalism workshops, game-based genetics learning program, podcasting club, and many more!

Volunteers assist staff in delivering these activities and exploring them with youth. Volunteers' presence help give more individualized attention to underserved youth, while their support as a caring and engaged adult provides positive relationships that help them grow.

Enrichment Time is Monday through Friday from 4:30-5:30pm. Individuals interested in making a difference in youths' lives while also having fun are encouraged to apply!

Mission Statement

East End House is a not-for-profit, multi-service community center and social service agency with an on-going commitment to a diverse population, providing programs and services to strengthen family and community. East End House is the center of community life, a safe haven welcoming, linking, and collaborating with individuals of all ages, their families, businesses, and community institutions to create innovative programs in pursuit of excellence on a sound fiscal basis.

Description

Originally established in 1875, East End House is one of Greater Boston's earliest settlement houses and community centers. One hundred and twenty-nine years ago, it was a vital resource for struggling or newly immigrated individuals and families. Today it is a dynamic, multi-service community center, focused on improving self-sufficiency, providing emergency aid, and making referrals to other agencies when necessary. Consistent throughout its history is this agency's dedication to providing essential services by responding to current community needs with programs, classes, informational resources, and activities. Well-baby clinics at the turn of the century, New Deal Programs during the Great Depression, multilingual energy audits for lower-income families in the seventies, a new facility completed in 1993 - East End House has evolved with its community, ever-mindful of the development and self-determination of those it serves.
