Bosun/Deck Department On The SS Red Oak Victory

Save to Favorites

We are looking for a Bosun and deck hands for volunteer opportunities aboard a historic ship in the Richmond shipyard! Interested in historic ships, the history of Richmond and the Kaiser shipyards, military history from WW II, Rosie the Riveter, the Merchant Marine, the Korean War, Vietnam, or all things nautical?

Our deck department is involved in restoration work like painting the ship, and also with maintaining the lines, handling deck equipment and our historic working winches! Since we have events and are planning on restoring the ship so we can steam around the Bay we are also in communication with the Coast Guard and so we do staff-wide trainings such as Man Over-board, Fire Fighting, Evacuations.

Then this is your volunteer gig!

The SSROV is a living connection to the past 70+ years on the SF Bay where today we hold events and tours. We have big dreams of steaming around the Bay and building an alternative art venue. Work is done outside and within the ship with beautiful views, fresh air, great conversation, and an amazing piece of history to interact with.

The SS Red Oak Vicory is open to the public on weekends and two days during the week (Tuesday and Thursday) from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. The environment is casual and the hours are flexible.

Please contact!

We are looking forward to meeting you!
