The Publicity Assistant will support the Publicity Chairperson in providing publicity, marketing and advocacy for the Friends of the Camarillo Library. This includes, but isn’t limited to, seeking appropriate avenues (electronic and traditional media outlets) to broadcast book sales, program activities, tours and other public outreach activities. Attending public events as a Friends’ representative is also highly encouraged. The assistant will receive assignments from the chairperson or other designated person.

Work and interface with board members and volunteers to determine appropriate methods of informing Friends’ members and the public of Friends activities. Gather needed information to precisely and accurately convey these events and programs. Contact or otherwise communicate the acquired information to the appropriate person/platform/media source, meeting a variety of publication sensitive deadlines.

Develop flyers, posters, infographics and other visual media in visually aesthetic, modern, and trending designs to engage viewers and assist in developing interest in the organization.

Attend board meetings and other necessary meetings and report on relevant tasks and progress when the chairperson is unable to attend.

Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms, as well as online blogging experience, is desired. Possess eagerness to stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends/upgrades/developments. Possess ability to identify new ways in which to generate positive publicity for Friends.

Excellent written, oral and technological communication is a must! We’re seeking an individual who enjoys attending public events and possesses motivational energy in advocating for the Friends, promoting Friends’ achievements and supporting community outreach efforts.

General Requirements:

  • One year minimum commitment
  • Approximately 15 hours per month (varies week-to-week and month-to-month)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Provide support for the organization on relevant annual projects, campaigns, activities and events
  • Make recommendations for improvements
  • Understand and appreciate the benefits of working in an all-volunteer, nonprofit environment
  • Background check may be required
  • Become Friends' organization Member

Mission Statement

The Friends of the Camarillo Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation run totally by volunteers. Its mission focuses on bringing to the attention and interest of the Camarillo community on the services and facilities of the Camarillo Library. The Friends helps support the Library by providing funding of new book and magazine purchases, library materials and supplies, and year-round library programs for children through seniors.

Description

The Friends of the Camarillo Library is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Camarillo Public Library. The Friends operates a bookstore (located adjacent to the library) that sells gently used books, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks that are donated by the generous public. The funds from the bookstore sales, along with membership dues, monetary donations, and bequests, goes towards advancing our mission. The Friends continues to strive to annually donate an average of $200,000 (pre-COVID) to the library.
