Seattle BrainWorks is a community based organization that offers support and skill building for individuals with traumatic brain injury. Participants are encouraged and assisted to fulfill their individual goals and pursuits in a safe and supportive community. BrainWorks offers vocational programs, independent living skill programs and personal and educational enrichment opportunities.
As a volunteer, you would assist staff in assisting members towards their goals through one-on-one assistance. This could be helping a member work on their reading/reading comprehension, developing computer skills, learning socials skills/boundaries, cooking and much more. This role involves some administrative support as well through special projects assigned by staff and member outreach.
No experience is necessary, but a background in occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, rehabilitation or a similar field is desired. Interest in brain injury and leadership skill is also preferred. The minimum requirements that SBW is looking for in volunteers are that volunteers are available at least 1 day a week with at least a 3 month commitment. The day and amount of time you choose is flexible.
