Students at the World Savvy Festival share their ideas for changing the world

Part pep rally, part global summit, the World Savvy Festival is an annual gathering during which middle and high school students present their ideas for changing the world, and teachers, parents, community members and elected officials from across the Twin Cities provide their support. The day-long event is designed so students leave with an increased confidence in their own ability to affect change, improved global competence, and skills to support their growth as global citizens.

During the Festival, students showcase their work exploring solutions to community and global issues. The Festival includes:

  • Students presenting their ideas for addressing issues they’ve chosen - such as hunger, homelessness, human trafficking, racial discrimination, or habitat preservation - and receiving feedback
  • A design challenge, during which students from different schools come together for a workshop with their peers about strategies to address a global issue
  • An opening ceremony to welcome students and a closing ceremony to celebrate high-scoring projects

On Festival day, we’re looking for volunteers to help

  • Serve as a greeter, welcoming students, teachers, judges, and other participants and guiding them around campus
  • Serve as judges, meeting with groups of students to listen to them present their projects and offer feedback using a rubric
  • With logistics, including setting up and serving lunch

  • Mentoring
  • STEM
  • Teaching / Instruction
  • English as a Secondary Language (ESL)
  • General Education
