Description: Volunteers will be working alongside AWS staff to support our Rice Rangers educational program. During these programs students plant wild rice seedlings in the marshes of the Anacostia while learning about wetland habitat and restoration. Only adults may volunteer for these programs. This project involves walking on uneven services while bending and lifting in the marshes. You will get muddy, but have a great time working alongside some enthusiastic children!

Clothing and Supplies: Closed-toed shoes are required and long pants are recommended. Please wear sunscreen and bring a re-usable water bottle and a snack. Water coolers will be provided.

Note: The restroom on site is a port-o-potty.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please register at least 2 days prior to the event date you chose to volunteer in order to receive additional information regarding proper clothing, etc.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Anacostia Watershed Society is to protect and restore the Anacostia River by bringing partners and communities together to achieve a clean and safe Anacostia River for the benefit of all living in its watershed and for future generations.

Description

Since 1989, the Anacostia Watershed Society has been working to make the Anacostia River swimmable, fishable and beautiful for everyone to enjoy!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with a variety of activities including: community cleanups, native plant and tree plantings, invasive plant removals, and meadow restorations.

AWS recognizes that volunteers truly are the backbone of this organization and that without them, our mission of cleaning up the Anacostia River would not be possible!
