We are in need of volunteers for our annual March for Babies event in Pleasanton on April 29th. 2017 marks the 48th annual March for Babies fundraiser for March of Dimes. March for Babies is a family oriented and highly attended event with more than 6,000 total participants expected throughout the Greater Bay Area this year.
March of Dimes seeks to improve the health of all babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. When we walk in March for Babies, we give hope to nearly half a million babies born too soon each year. In 2016, March for Babies raised over $7 million in California and over $2 million right here in the Greater Bay Area! Proceeds from March for Babies go directly towards research, community services, education, and advocacy for stronger, healthier babies.
Volunteers are at the heart of all March of Dimes activities, and March for Babies could not happen without help from people like you! Individuals, groups and student organizations are encouraged to volunteer. Please sign up to volunteer at the March for Babies event closest to you.
Below are some of the volunteer opportunities available.
Event Day Tasks:
-Set-up (help set up tables, chairs, signage, etc)
-Registration (check in participants and hand out t-shirts)
-Parking (help direct parkers)
-Directing routes
-Check points (pass out water & snacks and cheer on walkers)
-Food Services (help prepare & serve breakfast and lunch)
-Kid Zone Activities (face painting, crafts, games)
-Clean-up
We are also looking for student groups, cheer groups, Zumba instructors, and photographers.

Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birthweight.
Description
The first great polio epidemic in the U.S. was in 1916. The disease infected mostly children, killing thousands and leaving many more paralyzed. On a summer day in 1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt became one of its victims and the March of Dimes was born.
Through life saving research we beat polio, but we continue our efforts to help children today by working to save babies from the silent crisis of premature birth.
