Life Stories is an oral history program in which individuals can tell a personal life story or experience and record it digitally as a keepsake for themselves or loved ones. We seek Volunteer Interviewers and Editors to help facilitate the program. Interviewers meet with clients for a consultation meeting and then facilitate the recording during a conversational interview. Editors then transfer the recording to a disc and edit the material. Volunteer Interviewers must demonstrate effective communication and be comfortable working with the public. Volunteer Editors must be comfortable using a computer. Both interviewers and editors receive training.
The Mission of the North Shore Senior Center is to support the independence and well-being of older adults, enhance their dignity and self respect, and promote their participation in all aspects of community life.
Many opportunities for volunteer service are available for people of all ages. We have more than 800 active volunteers. Opportunities range from helping in the gift shop, library, offices, and cafe to teaching computer classes, transporting seniors to medical and dental appointments, preparing income tax returns, and providing companionship and emotional support to seniors who are homebound.
