ORGANIZATION: Planned Parenthood of St. Paul

Few organizations are as uniquely positioned as Planned Parenthood to engage young women around civic and policy issues and motivate them to take action. Using the new Path to Power national organizing model as a framework, summer Organizers will build Planned Parenthood’s power base throughout Minnesota, engaging activists, empowering volunteers, connecting with patients, and recruiting supporters. This is a great opportunity for aspiring organizers, activists and those wanting to get their foot in the door with Planned Parenthood and organizing around reproductive rights. 15 hours/week.

Specific Duties:
* Coordinate all aspects of topic area you are assigned (may include managing advocacy volunteers, events, etc.)
* Organize health center advocacy program activities for assigned Planned Parenthood health centers o Serve as point of contact with health center staff, ensuring they have resources and support to best engage patients in public affairs activities
o Proactively organize internal and external advocacy tactics to better engage patients and community
o Manage tracking of sign ups and data entry with extreme detail and security
* Meet base building, outreach and volunteer engagement goals
o Work creatively and proactively to plan and execute community outreach events
o Recruit, engage and retain volunteers in tactics
o Prioritize the recruitment of new supporters into Action Network
* Manage strategy and follow up of all activities in specific region o Invigorate Planned Parenthood in local communities through outreach and organizing tactics

Skills Gained:
1. Hone grassroots and community organizing skills through collaboratively and autonomous work 2. Develop understanding of and proficiency with operations of a nonprofit external affairs department 3. Become expert on multiple engagement software tools - Convio, Voter Activation Network, predictive dialer, and more 4. Serve integral role in establishing robust health center advocacy program and working collaboratively with health centers 5. Develop transferable skills for work in political campaigns, issue advocacy and grassroots organizing.

Qualifications:
* Incredibly reliable, great attention to detail, and able to work independently and autonomously * Commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission * Interest in the political aspect of reproductive rights * Must be willing to take on new and different projects, including but not limited to what’s listed above.
* Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Hours & Commitment:
15 hours per week June through August.

Compensation:
Unpaid. College credit available per your institution’s guidelines. Work-related travel and expenses will be covered.

Location:
Multiple interns will be recruited for this position. All Organizers will train together in St. Paul to launch the program, and will be able to use Planned Parenthood health center facilities as report offices.
