Help DC residents gain valuable career skills, obtain national certifications, and enter sustainable employment!

We are looking for passionate, competent, and reliable volunteers to assist with our weekday Hospitality classes for the Spring term, which runs from April 10 through June 27. Classes are from 1-3PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Interested volunteers should be able to commit to at least one day a week.

Volunteers may be asked to:

  • work with the staff instructor to prepare lesson materials
  • provide one-on-one support to students
  • assist in the classroom
  • grade papers
  • assist with inputting grades

If you have prior experience working with people in a professional environment or working in the hospitality/customer service industry, that's a plus! Prior traditional teaching experience is not required.

Volunteering as a classroom assistant with the YWCA NCA is a wonderful way to give back to your community and build your own skills at the same time - and it's fun! We look forward to working with you!

Mission Statement

The mission of the YWCA National Capital Area is to eliminate racism and empower women and their families with career education and training, health and wellness, and child and youth development programs that foster independence, economic stability, and overall well-being. Our vision is a community that reaches out to those in need, provides opportunities, cultivates healthy lifestyles, challenges social stereotypes, and values diversity and equality.

Description

Founded in 1905, YWCA National Capital Area dismantles barriers faced by women, girls, and people of color as they work to develop and sustain healthy lives. Women and girls come to us in times of transition for job training and career counseling. They come for mission-based skill-building programs for their families. They come in times of crisis as survivors of rape or domestic violence.
