Many youth in foster care live separated from their siblings however Sibling Camp helps to combat this problem. Sibling camp provides an opportunity for brothers and sisters to spend time with each other, trying new experiences and creating lasting memories together. At camp, siblings will immerse themselves in nature and participate in activities such as horseback riding, stem activities, kayaking, hiking, sleeping in cabins, photography, arts and themed special events. This week-long event is funded by grants and donations and all of the camp counselors volunteer their time. Counselor applicants must commit to six days of camp. Counselors and youth reside in cabins during camp stay, meals and basic accommodations are provided(running water, showers, electricity, etc). The application process includes interviews, background checks and training classes. The event is held from June 16th to June 22nd in Payson, AZ. Counselor certification and training takes place in Phoenix. Transportation up to camp can be provided if needed. Volunteers are prepared and trained through AASK to become a camp counselor. Becoming a volunteer camp counselor is highly rewarding and will offer siblings in foster care a life-changing experience. We hope to see you at camp!
