Read along with all of Milwaukee during the MKE Big Read! As part of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)Big Read 2017, Milwaukee Public Library presents a variety of events, programs, and discussions connecting to Julia Alvarez’s In the Time of the Butterfl ies. MKE Big Read seeks to inspire conversations about our community
and ourselves. Participate in our first event at Central Library, a kick-off event celebrating and bringing awareness to the novel of "In the Time of the Butterflies".

Saturday, April 8, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. (10 volunteers)- Central Library

Volunteer duties:

  • Craft for kids-butterfly craft
  • Book giveaways
  • Dance performance: merengue and bachata
  • Butterflies from the Caribbean: Milwaukee Public Museum mini butterfly-exhibit
  • Readings from In the Time of the Butterflies, and other works by Alvarez (local authors/poets/community members)

Volunteers will assist with a number of tasks.
