Be a Spanish Speaking Telephone Reassurance Volunteer
Background:
Established in 1893, Visiting Nurse Service of New York is the nation’s largest not-for-profit home based healthcare company. As a payer (Medicare Advantage, Medicaid Long Term Care) and a provider (homecare, hospice, long term care), VNSNY services more than 140,000 individuals a year in the metro New York City marketplace. Each day, over 10,000 VNSNY nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and allied professionals and paraprofessionals deliver compassionate care, unparalleled medical expertise, and 24/7 solutions.
VNSNY’s charitable care and community benefit initiatives ensure that all patients receive the full range of care they need, regardless of the limits of their health care coverage. In 2016, we provided more than $16.7 million through these programs, made possible, in part, by the generous support of foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
Position Description:
The volunteer will make weekly phone calls to frail elderly and disabled VNSNY patients in New York City who have been identified by nurses and/or social workers as needing telephone companionship. Brief notes must be recorded on office patient log.
Qualifications:
Genuine desire to interact with isolated patients; good listening skills; pleasant telephone manner and voice; ability to take notes and fill out form. Attendance at one training session and familiarization with training manual required. Bilingual callers in Spanish are needed.

Start Date: Flexible with minimum commitment of six months.
Hours: 1.5 - 2+ hours per week to complete calls to patients from our East 70th Street headquarters.
Hours are flexible 9:00 - 5:00 weekdays.
