Women Builders!

What is Women Build?

Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope while striving to create a world where every person has a decent place to live. One way we do this is through our annual Women Build event. Women Build empowers women to take concrete action against inadequate housing conditions that rob families of strength, stability and self-reliance.

Women Build is part-fundraiser/ part-build where volunteer teams and individuals set out to raise funds while assisting with build projects. Women Build brings together businesses, community leaders, and volunteers from all walks of life to celebrate the empowerment of women, while building affordable housing for low-income families in Chemung County.

When and where is Women Build 2020 taking place?

Women Build 2020 will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 9 am to 3 pm at one of our active worksites in Chemung County, which will be announced as the event approaches. Sign-in will start at 8:00 am, building will commence at 9:00 am.

What will happen at Women Build 2020?

Volunteer teams will work together to fund and build a Habitat home. Although teams are recommended, individuals may come on their own. Projects may include construction such as installing sheetrock, painting, installation of windows, and trim work. Lunch will be provided, as well as T-shirts and nail aprons.

Mission Statement

Chemung County Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to mobilize volunteers and partners to help local, low-income families break the cycle of poverty through affordable homeownership. To date, our affiliate has rehabilitated and newly constructed 22 homes in Chemung County and served hundreds of individuals. We are dedicated to restoring a sense of community with the common goal of strong neighborhoods and dignity through homeownership.

Description

We are part of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI)--a nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Chemung County Habitat is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
