Here's a little history....
In March 2017, TAILS moved into the 4-unit, cat adoption space at the Petco-Westport located at 1850 Post Road East(next to Michaels & Home Goods). Each day we go visit our furry charges and clean their litter, feed them, play with them and give them some general loving! We have two daily shifts to help make sure the kitties have lots of opportunity to be played with, fed and cubbies cleaned - and we need help! (Especially during the morning shift). We are hoping for 60-90 minutes (or more!) of your time during one of these daily shifts: 1030am-230pm or 4-730pm, M-Sat and 1030-230 or 4-645pm on Sunday. Note: you don't have to go the entire shift - it's 90 or so minutes during that shift. Whether you can commit to one night a week or once every other week (or once/month?) - that would be great! It's easy and you really are making a difference!

Cat caretaking must be done during the store's hours (9am-8pm, M-S, 10-6 on Sun) and we have specific shifts as noted above which are managed by an online calendar which you receive access to once you've gone through orientation. Mandatory requirements: 1) fill out volunteer form (link below), 2) Volunteer orientation (30-45 minute orientation at store; you will be contacted once you sign up). All supplies are provided. To sign up for one of our orientations --

PLEASE PRE-FILL OUT OUR VOLUNTEER FORM HERE: https//tailsct.z2systems.com/projectlist.jsp

We welcome responsible children as volunteers if accompanied by an adult and teens, based on successful completion of a probation period (and parental signature), the child/children can volunteer solo/pairs. Please note: we also have the same opportunity at the Petco in Norwalk (next to Walmart/Panera Bread) at 650 Main Ave.

Please email with any questions - info@tailsct.org

Thank you!

About TAILS (The Alliance In Limiting Strays)

Mission Statement

The mission of T.A.I.L.S. is to serve the community as a charitable organization that promotes spay/neutering of animals and provides financial support to humane organizations and individuals in pursuit of this goal. We are dedicated to vigorously promoting and educating the community about the importance of spay/neuter to reduce, and eventually elimnate, the killing of unwanted dogs, cats, and other animals.

Description

TAILS is an all-volunteer, stand-alone, spay/neuter organization based in Fairfield County. Put simply, TAILS funds and promotes spaying and neutering to save dogs and cats from being born into a world where there already aren't enough homes.

Formed in 2001, TAILS has grown each year thanks to the many volunteers who have come out and made our events successful. A tax exempt, 501(c)3 we welcome anyone who cares about our furry friends to come out and help us make a difference!

In November 2014, we took over the cat adoption space at the Petco-Norwalk location at 650 Main Ave (next to WalMart and Staples) and in 2017 we moved into the Westport Petco adoption space as well. Our primary focus is still spaying and neutering... .However, we are not a shelter so rely on our Petco adoption space and foster homes to help save cats we come across during our work on the streets. We desperately need help with fostering cats/kittens and help with our daily cat caretaking at both Petco stores we are in.

For a snapshot of our work (and how busy we are), in 2022 we spay/neutered approximately 650 dogs and cats and adopted 222 cats into loving homes.

We cannot do it without the help of our community. We are all volunteers ourselves - trying to help make our neighborhoods better for our furry friends. Can you help?

Thank you.
