In the orphanage

Neema House

Neema House is a rescue center for abandoned and orphaned babies, reuniting children with extended families and giving them the chance to be adopted. It started in June 2012 with a focus of babies up to three years old. Now they care for about 30 babies. Volunteers in Neema House play with the kids, change diapers, cook, clean and anything else which has to be done for the good of the babies.
NB: Because Neema House is receiving their own volunteers as well, we cannot always guarantee you a position in this placement.

Samaritan Village Orphanage

The Samaritan Village Orphanage was registered in 1994, but started receiving children in 1996. The centre is located in Moshono, Arusha, occupying 3 acres with a capacity of 40 children and has 13 staff members. Samaritan Village receives funds both locally 40% and 60% from external donations. The Centre accepts only abandoned children less than one year with unknown parents. Children are received in collaboration with the department of Social Affairs and hospitals. The children are raised under Tanzanian family set ups, using the 3 acres in agricultural environment, where the children participate in several economic activities such as animal husbandry, poultry, gardening, fisheries and farming. The orphanage has two volunteer programs:
Volunteers who come to work and are accommodated at the centre.
Volunteers who come to work at the centre but are accommodated outside.
All Volunteers must adhere to the norms and regulations of the centre, e.g. no alcohol, no smoking and decent dressing. Volunteers are expected to present a progressive report for at least two or three children in the area of their activities

Tumaini For Africa Orphanage

Tumaini For Africa was established in 2007 and is currently serving 21 children from different parts of Arusha. These children involve both orphans and vulnerable children. The project unfortunately struggles hard to sufficiently accommodate the children in their basic needs. The orphanage also has a baby-room and a kindergarten, where some of the children receive education. Older kids go to a governmental school for which the orphanage pays the fees. On their 4,5 acres plot nearby the Njiro Road, there is also a vegetable garden and a small cow shed which both help providing food.
