The NC Farmworkers Project seeks motivated, Spanish-speaking volunteers to assist with interpreting and translating at two health insurance enrollment events for farmworkers. The events usually draw 40-60 farmworkers who are interested in applying for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. In addition to offering application assistance, we invite health educators, tax preparers, medical providers, and other community members to the events to offer free information and services to farmworkers.
Volunteers will be responsible for interpreting Spanish-English enrollment appointments during the events. Volunteers must speak advanced to fluent Spanish and English, and be willing to familiarize themselves with key health insurance vocabulary prior to the enrollment events. Volunteers are required to complete a one-hour online HIPPA training and certification course in addition to an orientation before the events.
The event dates are Sunday, May 21 and Sunday, June 11. We prefer that volunteers commit to participating in both events.
