Do you love working with people AND love animals? Make a difference in the community and inspire compassion for animals by becoming an HSHV Humane Education Volunteer!"

Humane Education Volunteers will lead tours, give presentations, and inspire compassion through facilitating educational programming. We would love to put your public speaking and teaching skills to good use as a Humane Education Volunteer!

During our Humane Education programs, youth of all ages learn about animal welfare, animal care, and enjoy hands-on animal loving. Help us host programs such as Party Animal Birthday Celebrations, Pets and PJ’s Movie Night, Girl/Boy Scout Programs, Field Trips, Camp PAWS, Little Paws Story Time, and more! Most of our programs involve working with youth, but we do offer tours and presentations for adult groups as well.

Humane Education Volunteers are asked to commit to volunteering 4-6 hours per month. Programs are scheduled almost every weekend, which is when we need the most volunteer support. We also have programs during the day and during the week, on a less regular basis.

Description

Since 1896, the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) has been a leader in saving animals in our community. We are the only shelter in Washtenaw County, serving over 14,000 animals and their people every year. Thanks to innovative programs and community support (that is, thanks to VOLUNTEERS LIKE YOU!), animals at HSHV do not have a time limit to get adopted, and HSHV is classified as a "no kill" shelter by Maddie's Fund, a leader in the no kill movement. Thanks in great part to volunteers, HSHV has won several awards for the highest save rate among all similar animal shelters in Michigan. HSHV provides a variety of services including animal adoption, affordable full-service veterinary clinic, spay/neuter services, low cost vaccine clinics, 24-hour injured animal rescue, humane education and youth programs, and pet lost & found services. Our volunteer opportunities for adults 18+ are many, and we have a junior varsity volunteer program for youth between the ages of 12-17.
