Help write advice-oriented health and medical pieces on topics related to Addiction, Cancer, HIV/AIDS, Medical Marijuana, Neurology and Sleep Medicine. Writers should be able to review in-depth articles and guide readers on understanding diagnosis, treatment options and more.

We are looking for one to two 800 to 1,100-word pieces a week. Topics are directed towards various audiences, including patients and healthcare professionals.

Requirements:

• Ability to self-edit and self-check facts, and turn in clean copy that adheres to AP Style guidelines and is devoid of errors and grammatical issues
• Samples/Portfolio of prior writing (health writing a plus)
• Expertise and knowledge of medical conditions
• Experience writing for a consumer publication a plus
• Ability to turn in work by deadlines set by editor

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s OR 3 years of experience with healthcare communications writing
• Experience communicating technical information to non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences or clinical sciences
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, communications or media
• Advanced Degree in life sciences field
• Experience as a medical writer
• Experience as a writer in the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry
• Knowledge of evidence-based medicine research techniques and programs
• Experience generating publications, from blogs to both non-peer-reviewed and peer-reviewed scientific articles

Location

Depending on the volunteering opportunity, some or all of the volunteering may be done remotely, with communication via email and phone rather than in-person.
