Purpose
As a transportation volunteer, you will play a key role in helping senior residents who do not have access to reliable and/or affordable transportation get to doctors’ appointments, grocery shopping, and other errands around Portsmouth.
Many of our senior residents struggle with maintaining their independence when they have limited access to the community, help us change this!
Key Responsibilities
- Driving residents to various places around Portsmouth
- Examples: Families First, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Market Basket, Fox Run Mall, Portsmouth Senior Center, etc.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Comfortable working with a diverse population
- Driver’s license
- Excellent driving record
- Legally registered, inspected & insured vehicle
- Commitment to the safety of residents
- Dependable & punctual
- Background checks are required

Length of Assignment & Time Commitment
Ideally, we would like a weekly commitment for a minimum of two months. However we are flexible and open to various time commitments, including monthly volunteering. Contact us to see how you can help.

Description
The Authority provides both family and elderly housing, area-wide Section 8 housing, and a youth and family services program.
Persons whose incomes fall at or below 80% of median income can apply for assisted housing by picking up an application at the Central Office of the PHA located at 245 Middle Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire 03801 or if you are disabled and cannot make it into the office you may call (603) 436-4310 and you will be mailed a copy of the application. You can also access an application on this web site, download it, and send a copy to the office.
