GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide a clean, healthy, safe environment for the animals housed in the shelter.
Works directly under the supervision of the Kennel Supervisor.
Maintains the kennels and the animals therein.
Keeps the kennels and cages clean and disinfected according to methods developed and implemented by Director of Shelter Operations. Ensures dogs, cats, and other animals are kept clean, dry, and as comfortable as possible.
Daily washes dishes and donated items for shelter use or resale.
Is alert to any animal that seemingly is ill and report to Exam Supervisor, Shelter Veterinarian or Director of Shelter Operations accordingly.
Feeds all animals; ensures each animal receives sufficient food to satisfy appetite for the specific species and size. Daily maintain, change, and chart diets. Notify Exam Supervisor or Shelter Veterinarian of any diet concerns.
Keeps kitchen, halls and all other areas clean and mopped. Takes particular care to ensure all hallways and floors throughout the kennel areas are kept dry, free of hoses and other cleaning apparatus while the shelter is opened to the public. Empties all waste containers, and mop buckets, etc.
Maintains all laundry duties.
Keeps the grounds neat and clean, free from litter.
Receives all deliveries and disperses to appropriate areas or department.
Attends all scheduled training classes and utilizes new skills.
Maintains upkeep of storage areas.
Agrees to be cross-trained for Examination Room duties and fills in when Director of Shelter Operations states is necessary.
Daily disinfects pet carriers and crates and restocks supplies.
Maintains all shelter cleaning equipment and notifies Kennel Supervisor of need for repairs or replacements as equipment wears out.
15. Performs any other duties as specified by the Kennel Supervisor or Director of Shelter Operations.
Concern for health and welfare of animals is a must. Must be able to follow directions. Excellent time management skills are required. Able to get along with others and handle a fast-paced work environment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to bend and kneel repetitively.
