SVSF's Adult GED Program provides free individualized assistance to adults in preparation for the High School Equivalency/GED exam and for ABE students.
We are looking for tutors to help Adult students study for ABE (Adult Basic Education) and/or GED.
We focus heavily on math because that seems to be the most challenging subject for most students. There will also be some need to assist students with Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
Volunteer tutors must complete our Application Process. Our online application is here- https://www.svsfcenter.org/how-to-help/volunteer/
Volunteers will be scheduled for an Orientation/Training over Zoom after completing the application process.
Tutoring sessions are scheduled by the tutor and the ABE/GED student that they are matched with. Tutoring sessions are generally 1 hour long and SVSF suggests tutoring your student twice a week. Some Tutors and students meet more often and others meet less often. The GED students are working out of a GED book, so it is helpful for tutors to also have the book. Tutoring sessions are virtual/remote. Most are using Zoom, Skype or Google Duo. Sometimes it is done through a phone call and texts. Our students are also enrolled in an online learning platform.
I am happy to explain more about it and answer any questions you may have! COVID has caused many people to lose their jobs and it has compounded the challenges that our students face. We would love for you to help them make it through and come out the other side in a better position
