ORGANIZATION: BROWN GIRLS READ BOOK CLUB

Minutes:

The secretary is responsible for ensuring that accurate minutes of meetings are taken and approved.

Requirements of minutes should include at a minimum:

  • Date, time, location of meeting;
  • list of those present and absent;
  • list of items discussed;
  • text of motions presented and description of their disposition.
  • The Secretary participates in Board meetings as a voting member.
  • Attends all board meeting.
  • Provides notice of meetings.
  • The Secretary provides items for the agenda as appropriate.
  • The secretary records meeting minutes as described above Depending upon the bylaws and practices of the organization, the Secretary may perform these duties for Member meetings (eg. Annual General Meeting) and/or for an executive committee.
  • The Secretary ensures that proper notification is given of directors' and members' meetings as specified in the bylaws.
  • The Secretary manages the general correspondence of the Board of Directors except for such correspondence assigned to others.

Mission Statement

Brown Girls Read is and book club/mentoring program aim to increase adolescent literacy and empower our youth in the community. Our program strives to provide workshops that are both fun and educational where members learn essay writing, tips for applying to college, best practices for obtaining financial aid, money management and more. To keep the seminars interesting and relevant. The ability to read, write and communicate connects people and empowers them to achieve to the highest level possible. Members are divided into groups base on age and grade level. Group Yellow- ages 7-9 Group Orange- ages 10-12 Group Green- ages 13-15

Description

Our goals are to establish an effective learning program for our members that will increase their ability to be successful communicators. We believe that books and social skills have the incredible ability to teach, build communities, inspire individuals and change lives. Once youth have experience a true connection with a book that resonated with their own lives they are primed to become life-long readers.
