Safe Routes to School Team At Maybury

Walking School Bus Leaders will be responsible for getting kids in one of two the elementary school neighborhoods to and from school safely while teaching pedestrian safety. The neighborhoods are both in Southwest Detroit and leaders who speak Spanish are treasured, but anyone with a kind and committed heart is sorely needed.

Morning Walking school bus leaders will be given a route to walk and stops to check in at that will be a mile or less walking and less than a quarter mile from the Elementary school, elementary students and their parents will join you along the route and at the "bus stops." You will stay with children until they reach the school, and will ensure that they follow pedestrian safety rules during the walk.

The hope is that we can recruit volunteers that can make a regular weekly commitment to these walks, though we can try to work around your schedule.

Walking school bus leaders may also recieve a small weekly stipend to account for gas or other travel expenses to and from the school.

In the fall, this opportunity will resume.
