The Tour de Staten Island is a fun-filled, non-competitive bike ride through the neighborhoods and parks of New York City’s greenest borough! Tour volunteers help with course marshaling, set-up, registration and manning our rest stops, and more.

All volunteers will receive a gift of a Tour de Staten Island t-shirt at their shift.

Please contact us at volunteer@transalt.org to sign up!

Riding Marshals50-mile route marshals: (7 am - 4 pm), 35-mile route marshals (7:30 am - 4 pm). Meet at Flagship Brewery.
You are an experienced cyclist with the ability to fix flats and handle other minor mechanical breakdowns. Please bring your bike and be ready to ride the entire course. Help riders navigate the route, negotiate tricky intersections, fix flats and find their way to rest areas and bike repair stations.

Stationary Marshals7 am - 4 pm, Meet at Flagship Brewery (unless instructed otherwise)
Guide riders through potentially tricky areas of the route. You do not need any prior experience marshaling, but should have access to a bike and be willing to ride it to your marshalling station, which may be a substantial distance from public transit.

Thanks in advance for helping T.A. make this a safe and fun event!

About Transportation Alternatives

Location:

127 W 26th St #1002, New York, NY 10001, US

Mission Statement

Reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and promote bicycling, walking and public transit as better transportation alternatives.

Description

With 100,000 active supporters and a committee of activists working locally in every borough, TransAlt fights for the installation of infrastructure improvements that reduce speeding and traffic crashes, save lives and improve everyday transportation for all New Yorkers.

Since our founding in 1973, T.A. has paved the way for remarkable changes in New York City’s transportation infrastructure: the extraordinary growth of bicycling, the launch of Citi Bike and the introduction of innovations to city streets, like Complete Streets, parking-protected bike lanes, automated speed enforcement cameras, public plazas, Select Bus Service and Neighborhood Slow Zones, and much more.

Right now, Transportation Alternatives activists are leading the fight to improve infrastructure for bicycling and walking on scores of local streets and to change traffic enforcement policy and practices citywide. The goal is to achieve Vision Zero -- the elimination of traffic deaths and serious injuries on New York City’s streets.
