ORGANIZATION: Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

For years Girl Scouts has provided education and hands-on training in STEM disciplines to girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade as part of the Girl Scout experience. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. GSHPA represents 30 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania with membership of well over 17,500 girls. To highlight the importance and significance of STEM education for girls, GSHPA launched a three-year initiative "Girls Go STEM" in the fall of 2016. We plan to publicly celebrate Girl Scouts and career opportunities the STEM discipline affords at our first STEM Expo. Anticipated attendance is over 1,000 girls and family members from our geographic footprint.

The STEM Expo will be open from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm, with exhibitor set up available as early as 7:30 am. It is expected that girls from our large footprint will arrive early as many will be traveling some distance to attend. In addition to the STEM Expo we will be hosting an elite group of Girl Scout alumnae at a VIP reception at the Hershey Lodge from 11:30 - 12:30. The day will culminate with a 500 person sit down luncheon celebration at 1:00 pm at the Hershey Lodge (attendees in addition to the 1000 expected for the STEM Expo) honoring the 65 Girl Scouts achieving their Gold Award - the highest honor in Girl Scouts. With the limited Expo hours and large attendance for multiple audiences we are looking for a minimum of 100 volunteers to support our staff of 62 individuals at the Hershey Lodge. Any and all support is greatly appreciated and warmly embraced.

Volunteers will have shift options as noted on our on-line event volunteer registration form - link provided here. https://gsheartpa.wufoo.com/forms/xnxxe0r042o593/

Volunteer opportunities vary with opportunities to assist with set up and tear down, registration (three different registration desks), information guide, girl guide through the Expo, exhibitor support among other roles. We will provide webinar training in advance of the event and additional training onsite day of event. T-shirts will be provided and required attire for all volunteers to help identify you as a "go to" person the day of the event. We request volunteers wear khaki pants and comfortable shoes and have a cheerful, helpful disposition to encourage our excited and energetic girls to maximize the experience.

Mission Statement

"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place."

Description

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA is the preeminent organization for girls with a current membership of 3.6 million girls and adults. Volunteers use their expertise, skills, interests, and life experience to shape fun and enriching leadership experiences for girls, and inspire them to reach their personal best. Volunteers help council staff facilitate the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through exciting program opportunities: leadership/self-esteem, financial literacy, travel, health/wellness, science, technology, engineering, and math. Volunteers choose from several flexible Pathways (the ways that girls and adults join Girl Scouting) that fit their lifestyles, including short-term or long-term service working either directly or indirectly with girls, and they can participate regionally, nationally, and internationally.
