About Minnesota Children's Museum
Minnesota Children’s Museum’s mission is sparking children’s learning through play. We are dedicated to providing children with a hands-on and stimulating environment to explore and discover. With locations in St. Paul, Rochester, and the Mall of America, MCM employs 65 full-time and 65 part-time employees and engages over 1,300 volunteers annually. Position Summary
Minnesota Children’s Museum’s renovation and expansion project is nearly complete! With ten all-new galleries opening to the public in the spring, the museum will need to establish new models for compiling and documenting informal observations and feedback related to the exhibits, as well as archive materials used during more than four years of planning. This position will assist with gathering, documenting, and archiving information related to exhibit development and design, observations and feedback, and remediation.
Major Job Accountabilities
The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern and museum staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the Learning & Impact department.
- Compile appendices, proof, and format exhibit Interpretive Plans for archives
- Maintain and document staff observation and feedback communication boards
- Compile and document anecdotal observations and feedback from a variety of sources (including but not limited to social media, emails, conversations, etc.)
- Evaluate current documentation tools and make recommendations for improvements
- Photograph exhibits for archival purposes
- Document exhibit modifications related to remediation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Background in museum studies, library science, non-profit management, or related studies preferred
- Demonstrates proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Demonstrates initiative (e.g., in starting tasks, asking questions, identifying and discussing problems, ability to structure own work, stay on task)
- Ability to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing
- Ability to use informal evaluation methods to inform learning and ability to make necessary improvements based on the results
- Ability to explore ideas and implement with creativity, imagination, and resourcefulness
- Ability to apply knowledge and area of expertise to the museum setting and add value to identified priorities and goals
- High level of enthusiasm, energy, and professionalism
