Internship Program Overview:

The Policy Intern supports strategies to encourage the development and growth of new business projects. This will be a hands-on position and is a great learning opportunity. The Policy intern reports to the Deputy Director of Policy & Civic Engagement.


Found Animals is unable to pay any portion of the applicant's salary, however, we are happy to work with students so that they may receive academic credit or outside funding for their work.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform policy and legislative research on current state and local initiatives, analyze information and data

  • Staffing relevant local officeholder and committee meetings

  • Analysis of current program models and trends to reduce shelter euthanasia, development of position papers on potential new models

  • Assist in establishing new governmental and elected office relationships

Requirements:

  • Must be a student enrolled in a public policy, public administration, or like program with an interest in legislative, policy, or civic engagement work.

  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and google docs.

  • Interest in navigating complex public processes, and building strong relationships and coalitions.

  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written).

  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment.

  • Motivated self-starter with great attitude.

  • Ability to travel as needed to meet with potential partners, attend Found Animals functions, and/or participate in professional events in California.

  • Ability to set and enforce priorities and deadlines.

Length of Project:

  • 10-12 weeks (based on availability) or in accordance with for-credit internship requirements
