As a charter Partner of the Berklee City Music Network, the Music Department at A Place Called Home offers music instruction from beginning through professional levels, as well as a world of opportunities that include attendance at intensive music camps, and college scholarships. Programs include instruction in guitar, bass, brass, woodwinds, piano, strings, percussion, voice, recording and production, songwriting and music theory, and our advanced performance ensemble. Our music students are eligible to audition for special scholarship opportunities to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music, as well as other college and professional training music programs.
Our exciting Accelerated Music Program (AMP) is designed for intermediate and advanced students who are committed to pursuing a higher education degree in music, or a professional musical career. AMP students participate throughout the week in regular classes and attend advanced classes on Saturdays. Our digital recording program bridges technology and music, taking students on a journey from idea all the way to finished product. Students learn in a state-of-the art environment where they can create original music and participate in original CD recording projects and radio broadcasts using our digital media laboratory. The young performers in the APCH Music Department have gained a stellar reputation throughout Los Angeles for their professional level performances, and over the past decade our Music Department bands have played in well-known venues and opened for the Black Eyed Peas, Diana Ross, Ozomatli and other established artists.
Classes: Recording & Production, Beat Making & Music Technology, Piano, Vocal Ensemble, Intro to Music, Guitar
Volunteers are needed 4:30-6:30 Monday-Friday.

Mission Statement
At A Place Called Home, our mission is to inspire, encourage, and support the young people in South Los Angeles to achieve social, emotional, and economic success.
Description
A Place Called Home first swung open its doors in 1993 - a year after the LA Unrest, amidst a crime epidemic that rendered the streets of South Central unsafe for its children of any age. APCH’s mission was simple, but wrought with challenges: to provide gang-affected youth of South Los Angeles with a safe haven away from the life-threatening dangers and temptations of the streets.
Since then, a dynamic, multi-service youth and community center has evolved and grown on the corner of South Central Ave and 29th Street. For 30 years, A Place Called Home has been serving South Central youth ages eight to mid-twenties and their families through education and arts programs, mental health counseling, mentorship, job readiness, college scholarships, civic engagement, and more. At our core, we are still a place where young people who face tremendous challenges can experience the safety, joy, and opportunity that should be a part of every childhood.
