Internship Program Overview:

As an HR Intern you will be assisting the HR Department specifically on one of five projects or a combination based on the amount of hours for the internship, candidate’s skills and interests:

  • Project #1 - Technology: Research HR technology options for recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, learning management systems, performance management, rewards and recognition, communication, intranet and ERP integration. Analyze options and present recommendations to the HR team.

  • Project #2 - Compensation: Work with management to update job descriptions including position requirements, education level, experience and exemption status. Perform salary benchmarking, establish pay grades and ranges and present recommendations to the HR team.

  • Project #3 - Recruiting: Using traditional and non-traditional HR recruiting techniques, develop a recruiting strategy, database management tool, and supporting materials to recruit volunteers based on our volunteer strategic model. Present recommendations to the HR and Volunteer teams.

  • Project #4 - Compliance: Rewrite our existing handbook in our brand voice maintaining the integrity of the intent and compliant with labor laws. Present final product to the HR and Legal teams.

  • Project #5 - Professional Development: Researching staff educational grants for non-profits and drafting grant proposals.


This HR Intern position is an unpaid volunteer position with a non-profit organization. We are happy to work with students so that they may receive academic credit or outside funding for their work.

Responsibilities for all projects will include but are not limited to:

  • Researching various topics.

  • Gathering and analyzing data.

  • Working with various departments.

  • Writing proposals and making presentations.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of post high school education completed

  • Human Resources, Business or similar major

  • Excellent research and writing skills

  • Interest in learning more about non-profit human resources

  • Strong communication skills

  • Commitment to the mission, vision and core value of Michelson Found Animal
Length of project:
  • 8-12 weeks (based on availability) or in accordance with for-credit internship requirements
