The Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild maintains and sails historic ships to bring the past to the present. We are a non-profit organization that teaches and practices seamanship, traditional restoration, maritime culture, and sailing skills in a fun and team focused setting. The Guild currently owns two vessels located on Philadelphia’s Delaware River waterfront: the historic Portuguese fishing barkentine Gazela Primeiro , and the covered lighter barge Popler. Though not owned by the Guild, the tugboat Jupiter , built in Philadelphia in 1902, is maintained and operated by the Guild as well.
The Guild is looking for community-focused individuals who are interested in helping the organization meet its strategic fundraising goals as volunteer members of the Development Committee. The Guild is seeking individuals who have knowledge in business, communications, social media, not-for-profit fundraising, grant writing and/or community development. Your experience and skills will contribute to creating new strategies that will generate opportunities to increase the Guild’s fundraising revenues.
Individuals should have a working knowledge of the charitable sector and experience in fundraising. Other attributes include the ability to work and communicate effectively as a part of the development team. You will have the willingness to commit the necessary time to participate in committee meetings and fundraising activities. The committee meets monthly and ad-hoc as necessary.
