GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Development Intern will be actively involved in the ongoing work of the Capital Region Development Director and Assistant in their efforts to raise financial support for The Salvation Army, specifically for the Corps’/Service Center and their programs/operations within the Greater Capital Region. While assisting with a wide range of fundraising projects and working with a specific group of caseload donors and prospects, the intern will gain substantial hands-on experience and training in many aspects of nonprofit development, while gaining a good understanding of major donor and grant-writing work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Intern will be mentored by the Development Director who will help the intern prioritize tasks

and focus on multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

The top priorities for this term will be, but are not limited to:

  • Grants from Foundations and Corporations
  • Donor Thank You’s/Stewardship
  • Event Support
  • Other Duties as Assigned

X Level 5: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

____ Level 6: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

____ Level 7: Fifth year college or university program certificate and five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

____ Level 8: Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent and five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

____ Level 9: Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent and ten years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS.

  • Student will preferably have at least sophomore class standing in college
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills
  • Skill in coordinating and completing special projects and routine tasks
  • Excellent computer capabilities
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work well with deadlines
  • A passion for working with the poor and under-served populations
  • Interest in non-profit fundraising
