The purpose of this volunteer position is to improve the patient and family experience along with patient-related health outcomes by increasing patient knowledge and understanding of their condition through greater access to health care information.

Specifically, volunteers in this position will:

  • Proactively go from patient-room to patient-room to explain the health information request process to patients and their family members

  • Assist patients in the completion of the Health Information Request Form using an iPad supplied by the Medical Library.

  • Round on patients and their families to determine and meet their comfort needs (extra pillow, blanket, refill waters, personal belongings within reach, etc.)

  • Socialize with and spend time visiting patients as a listening companion
