Mission Statement

Farmgrass is a nonprofit with the mission of promoting the mental and physical well-being of local, independent farmers. When the farmers who grow the food for our farmers markets and our favorite farm-to-table restaurants get sick or hurt, they struggle to maintain their jobs, their homes, their families, and their livelihoods. Farmgrass is dedicated to helping our local farmers when they have medical emergencies through innovative and exciting events with great music that help raise awareness in the community about local farmers and their struggles.

Description

Farmgrass is an official 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Austin, TX that began in 2014. We currently raise money for Gro-Act’s Farmers Emergency Medical Fund by donating proceeds from exciting events throughout the year such as Farm To Feast , a locally-sourced dinner banquet in March, and Farmgrass Fest , a bluegrass festival in May. These events help bring awareness to the farmers and their struggles, as well as the journey our food takes from the farm to our dinner tables. Our long-term goal is to make comprehensive health care available to our Central Texas farming community. Farming is hard, physically demanding work with no medical benefits provided. Most farmers do not have adequate health insurance and we are one of the only organizations working to remedy this. In the future, we hope to transform our medical fund into a comprehensive health care plan for farmers that will include affordable preventative care, medical cost mediation services, and a web-based hub for medical resources and referrals.
