Empowering

ChopArt is an arts organization for homeless youth ages 10-18. This year our youth in shelters are creating artwork from dining room furniture pieces depicting what a "home means to them" to be presented in their Home Improvement art show on June 2nd. They need your help!! We're looking for artists to help our youth think through concepts, come up with a plan, and create masterpieces. The shelter locations, times, and days are below. All volunteers must pass a background check.

Cascade Rd: Tuesdays: 4:30pm-6:30p

Howell Mill: Wednesdays: 6pm-8pm

Jonesboro: Wednesdays: 6pm-8pm

Grant Park: Thursdays: 7pm-9pm

To provide empowerment to youth in homeless situations to express themselves creatively and to develop sustainable values through art exploration.

Description

ChopArt empowers homeless youth to practice positive self-expression through the use of art. We offer on-site art courses to middle and high school aged youth including the media of poetry, painting and photography. ChopArt also offers mentorship and impact assessment in a program model customizable to each shelter's circumstances. Through our program we have been able to inspire young lives in South Africa, India and the United States since 2010.

Our youth have something to say and they speak up despite the worry that on one's listening. By 2014, ChopArt will help over 300 homeless youth develop sustainable life skills and values through art, one-on-one mentoring and open ears!
