The NC Farmworkers Project is coordinating three Sunday health insurance enrollment events for the spring and summer. These events usually draw a total of 100 to 130 Hispanic farmworkers who are interested in applying for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Nationwide, farmworkers are at a high risk of developing chronic illnesses and suffering from workplace accidents or injuries. Health insurance can make it easier for farmworkers to to access prevententative and specialty care and to improve their health.

In addition to offering application assistance, we invite legal services, health educators, tax preparers, medical providers, and other community members to the events to offer free information and services to farmworkers. Health insurance specialists from across North Carolina participate, so the events are a really exciting way to meet healthcare advocates and to contribute to improved healthcare access in the community!

The role of this volunteer is to assist in all aspects of event coordination, including sending invitations to partner organizations, creating event flyers, assisting with appointment scheduling, seeking donations, organizing tables/chairs/tents, and reserving rental vehicles. The volunteer must have excellent computer skills and knowledge of email, Word, and Excel. Spanish language is not required, but preferred.

This position necessitates a long-term volunteer who can commit 2-3 hours per week from March- June, 2017, in order to assist with the coordination of all three events. We would love for the volunteer to also attend the three Sunday enrollment events (dates TBD) in the Benson area in to learn more about our work and to see what has been accomplished, but this is not a requirement.
