The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
We match Jewish children (Littles) ages 6-18 with mentors (Bigs) over the age of 21. We are currently in need of mentors between 21-55 years old. Matches are made based on compatibility of interests, personalities, strengths and needs. Bigs and Littles spend quality time together twice a month for 2-3 hours each time engaging in recreational, cultural, or educational outings. They can also participate in agency-sponsored events with other matches. While participants commit to the program for at least one year, many remain in each other’s lives for much longer as caring, trusted friends. JBBBSLA offers additional opportunities and resources through camp experiences and college scholarships.
