Cathedral High School (CHS) is a Catholic, college preparatory school located in the heart of Manhattan, which welcomes young women of all faiths and cultures. Since it opened its doors in 1905, Cathedral has been a place where young women feel at home and are encouraged to be strong, smart, independent women who can do anything they set their minds to.

In 2012, Cathedral High School was ranked by The New York Observer as one of New York City’s top 160 schools and among the top 35 private high schools. Almost all of our students are daughters of immigrant working families. 645 young women representing 72 countries attend CHS. Many of our students come from families who earn at or below the federal poverty level (60% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch). Over 82% of our girls are Hispanic or of African American descent.

Through the decades, CHS has continued to enhance its academic curriculum and extra-curricular activities to ensure that students graduate equipped with the skills necessary to be successful in college and careers thereafter. CHS routinely graduates nearly 100% of its students - compared to a current graduation rate of 61.3% for NYC public schools - and assists students in securing tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. CHS graduates have the skills to be competitive in the global workforce and a sense of obligation to others so that they give back to their New York City community.
